RBC's carry oxygen thru a protein called hemoglobin (Hb or Hgb). Hence -- a CBC measures the amount of hemoglobin in our blood.
A common side effect of cancer treatment is the lowering of our hemoglobin levels --- called anemia --- by reducing the number of RBC (LOW RBC)------ hence again ---fatigue!
Normal Hb level is about 14.5 g/dl
If Hb level is low -- Dr may prescibe medication such as Aranesp (Dar-be-poe-tin alfa) or Procrit (eh-poe-tin) to improve the RBC Counts.
